Please note Industry Accreditation is being withdrawn. CPCS is required to phase out blue Competent Operator cards gained through Industry Accreditation from 1 January 2020, and any cards issued through transitional routes will be completely removed by 31 December 2024, more information.
For example, obtaining your CPCS Competent Operator card after transferring from another card scheme such as the CTA Scheme.
Renewing your card 3 months before the expiry date.
To renew you need to:

A Blue Competent Operator Card will be issued for five years from the last expiry date. Full details on how to renew are available within the Scheme Booklet for Operators.
Please be aware should your card have expired you have up to 5 years to renew after the expiry of the card as long as the above criteria have been met.
Should you not require or be able to meet the renewal requirements for a category, you have the option to Bank a category until you are able to meet the renewal requirements. Further information on how to do this can be found in the CPCS Scheme Booklet for Operators – please note at least one category must be renewed in order to bank others.
Should your card be over the 5-year limit to renew since expiry, you will be required to renter the scheme by completing the following requirements.
If a Blue Competent Operator Card is more than five years past the expiry date, a cardholder who wants to renew it will have to:
• Pass the relevant health, safety & environment test
• Pass the CPCS Theory Test for each category held
• Pass the CPCS Practical Test for each category held
• Hold the relevant VQ (if not held a Trained Operator Card will be issued)
The CPCS Management Committee has agreed to new criteria for expired Competent Card holders.
