Information sharing agreements with third parties help to protect the personal information of applicants and recipients and ensure that applicants and recipients do not receive assistance for which they are not eligible.
The ministry has information sharing agreements with several Ontario government ministries, some other provinces, and departments of the federal government. These agreements entered into by the ministry apply to all delivery agents.
If any new agreements are signed, such information will be communicated to delivery agents with a copy of the agreement so that agreement protocols are adhered to and appropriate business practices are implemented.
Delivery agents may also enter into an information sharing agreement with a government or approved body.
Where no information sharing agreement exists, the collection, use and disclosure of information is limited to provisions set out in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act .
To use personal information for purposes other than the administration of the Ontario Works Act, 1997 , the written consent of the applicant or participant must be obtained.
